Lead Pastor: Bryan Robbins

I’ve lived in Asheville since I was 10 years old. I became a follower of Jesus when I was 15, and I met my wife Christina at 17 in my high school chemistry class. We were married in 2003 and have three children: Elijah (4), Sophia (3), and Ezra (1). After graduating from UNC-Asheville, I developed and led a mission of a local church while starting seminary at Gordon-Conwell. In March of 2007, Kurt called and asked me to join him in planting Missio Dei. Over the last three years I’ve served here as an Elder and the Worship Pastor, and in 2009 I completed Acts 29 Assessment in preparation for assuming the role of Lead Pastor.

I grew up in the small town of Timberlake, North Carolina and although I was raised in the church, I did not gain a strong grasp of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross until I was in high school. I attended North Carolina State University and graduated in 2003 with a degree in Turfgrass Management, and in that same year married my best friend, Michelle. We lived in Myrtle Beach for a few years and felt a growing desire to be in the mountains and yet still be close to family, so we moved to Asheville, NC in 2006. Through our involvement in several ministries, God called us to a new church plant, Missio Dei Church, in 2007. I have served the church in many facets including worships arts, the children’s ministry, administration, and the hospitality team, and then became a deacon in 2009, and later an ordained pastor in 2010.
My wife and I enjoy camping, meeting new people and developing deep relationships with them, spending time with our family, serving others, watching movies, listening to music, and playing with our dog (Katie).

I am northerner by birth and tar-heel by choice. I grew up in Indianapolis, Ind. After high school I joined the Marine Corps and saw much of the world in my four year tour. My first wife of almost 30 years passed away in 1989. My wife Beverly and I have been married for almost 22 years. Between us we have four children and 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. I grew up with three brothers and four sisters and single Mom. After my military service I started college and graduated with a BS in Industrial engineering. I retired from RCA Corp. in 1996.
Beverly and I both love the Lord and are most happy when we are able to serve others. We came to Missio Dei. approximately 2 ½ years ago and have since joined the church. I am very fortunate the Lord allowed me to grow through the Elder process. It has been the hardest and most spiritually satisfying period in my life. I feel my spiritual strength is praying for his people and serving the Lord.
My life verses are James 5: 13-16.“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” vs. 16b.

I grew up in the beautiful small town of Highlands, NC. I became a husband and a father at age 17. My wife Amy was 16 at the time. It was around this time that I felt drawn to the Lord after a serious car accident. Since my first daughter Cora was born in 1994, I have had many different jobs, played in several bands, had another daughter Aislinn and a son Sean and earned an A.A.S. in Networking Technologies in 2010. Since coming to Missio in 2009, I have truly and deeply experienced the healing power of Jesus in my heart and in my marriage. Amy and I will celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary this year.
Music has always been a major part of my life. Before joining Missio, I was in several local bands, but I played primarily in churches. I served on staff, part-time, leading worship at a large non-denominational church, and left there to be a touring musician with my band, Dice Fly High, in 2004. The pursuit of fame through that band left me empty and my family broken. God graciously pursued me and I have come to see Christ as more worthy and beautiful than all the things I was chasing before. I feel called to disciple people, and to lead other artists to use their talents to glorify God. I want to see the arts build up the church and challenge culture.
Currently, I work at Applied Solutions Group fixing technology. I love to be with my family, hang out with friends, be outside, eat good food and play loud music.

I grew up in a river farm-town, Illinois, specifically, Henry (affectionately nicknamed Hank) where the town motto really is “Best Town in Illinois By a Dam Site”. Christy and I met in downtown Chicago where we attended college at Moody Bible Institute. We graduated, got married, and started ministry in 2001, moving to the Buffalo, NY area. The seven years we spent there were tough ones for us. With our marriage hanging on by a thread, we ventured south and landed in Black Mountain.
Shortly after, God led us to Missio where we found healing and growth for our hearts as individuals, which started repairing our marriage in the grace of Christ. The gospel of Jesus is taking over more of our stubborn areas of disobedience and disbelief. We love being involved in ministry together (which is a huge change) and look forward to Sunday mornings with the body and Wednesday evenings with our community group.
I love down time with Christy, reading theology, college football, and never turn down a dessert.
Church Planting Pastor: Kurt Hannah

I became a Christian in 1995 in my freshmen year of college. Married my high school sweetheart, Shannon, in 2000. We’ve since had three kids: Ashe (son), Kai (son), Rayne (daughter) whom we delivered in the bedroom accidentally (most people conceive by accident…). Attended West Virginia University, Bob Jones University and Reformed Theological Seminary before becoming an ordained Pastor in 2004. Completed Acts 29 Network assessment and requirements in 2007 and planted Missio Dei Church in Sept. 2007. My family and moved back to Cincinnati, Ohio in August to plant another gospel-centered missional church. You can keep up with the journey at my blog HERE.
I have strong opinions about countless subjects but love people and being around people deeply. I thrive on good food, good competition, good laughter, good theology, and good friendship.
